2021 OSS & Prospect Series Dates

*IMPORTANT* Travelling from the US
• AGCO licensees arriving from the USA will be required to follow all Canadian immigration rules which currently includes a 14-day quarantine. Licensees that have been granted a quarantine exception by Canadian Border Services may be permitted to access GRR with pre-approval from GRR management.
• Licensees seeking pre-approval will be required to confirm that they have been granted a quarantine exception, and that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Please contact Jamie Martin at jmartin@grandriverraceway.com to receive pre-approval at access GRR, any approval must be confirmed on the date of the draw for entries for the affected race card.

Grand River Raceway has released new standard operating protocols in the past year. Please review the following protocols prior to attending the Grand River Raceway for training, qualifying or racing.

Beginning Friday, July 16th, up to 1,500 spectators will be able to join us at the track for live racing.

Schoolers, Training & Qualifiers

Schooling & Training Schedule for Grand River Raceway for the 2021 Race Season

Starting May 31st the paddock and racing surface will be open for training every Tuesday & Thursday mornings from 8am – 12noon.

Currently, trainers do not need to sign-up in advance as we do not anticipate high enough demand to create an unsafe environment in the paddock. All licensed staff planning to attend with horses must complete the COVID screening questionnaire before arrival.

Qualifier Schedule for Grand River Raceway for the 2021 Race Season

***PLEASE NOTE THAT WEDNESDAY, JULY 7th QUALIFIERS WILL START AT 1:00PM DUE TO HIGH DEMAND***

Beginning Wednesday, July 14th and continuing for the remainder of the season, qualifying and schooling races will be scheduled every Wednesday at 2:00pm and training cannot be accommodated on those dates.

Entries for Schoolers will be taken by calling Sue Ellis at Grand River Raceway at 519-846-5455 ext 221 after the draw on Mondays, qualifiers will have priority. Pre-registration is mandatory – NO EXCEPTIONS

Entries for Qualifiers will continue to be taken at Central Race Office enter by 10:00 am on Monday. Central Race Office (Clinton Raceway). To enter, call: 1-800-898-7792 or 519-482-5270

The GrandWay Kitchen is now OPEN

Starting Monday, June 14th we are opening up our GrandWay Kitchen every Monday, Wednesday & Friday to horsemen who are on-site racing. The menu will offer a selection of pub favourites with a horseman special, made right in-house with fresh local ingredients.

Claiming Procedures

  1. Must be received by the Race Office at least ½ hour prior to the scheduled post time of the race you are claiming from.
  2. Those wishing to claim a horse must be screened by our stable gate staff. Only those scheduled to race on the race day/night will be allowed entrance into the paddock (Trainer/Groom). Owners are still not permitted to enter the Paddock. All will be directed to the Race Office to enter their claim.
  3. COVID 19 Protocols will apply (temperature checks, face masks, social distancing & hand sanitization).
  4. When confirmed by AGCO officials that a Licensee has successfully claimed a horse, the Licensee will be granted access through the stable gate to enter the paddock and pick up the horse.
  5. Have your AGCO claiming form & new claiming authorizations completed & signed ahead of time. These forms can be downloaded from the AGCO & S/C websites or you can get copies in the Race Office to have on hand.
  6. Methods of payment for claim: Bank draft or certified cheque made payable to Grand River Raceway. We cannot accept 3rd party cheques. (IE: endorsed WEG purse/claim cheques)
  7. HST (13%) will be added to all claiming prices.
  8. A transfer fee of $47.00 will be invoiced to the 1st new owner by Standardbred Canada. Payment will not be accepted in the Race Office.
  9. Any overpayment on a claim will be issued by a cheque to the person(s) who is doing the claiming.

Note to Owners of claimed horses:

  1. Owners of claimed horses need to confirm with the Business Office by contacting Sue Ellis at 519-846-5455 ext 221 or by email to sellis@grandriverag.com if they are registered for HST or not before a claim cheque can be issued. If you are registered then you also need to give us your valid HST #.
  2. Standardbred Canada has requested that all Claim payments are cleared thru them before being handed out.
